Welcome back Rx224!
Veteran steam locomotive Rx224 will return to the rails on Sunday 23rd May 2021 after a 30-year restoration by dedicated employees and volunteers at SteamRanger Heritage Railway’s Mt Barker Depot.
The engine will be formally recommissioned as the key attraction at the 2021 Mount Barker Railway Heritage Festival (SteamRanger’s contribution to South Australia’s History Month), in front of gathered volunteers and invited guests at SteamRanger’s Mt Barker Railway Station at 10am on Sunday 23rd May.
The engine will then haul a special train for invited guests and the general public to nearby Bugle Ranges, in company with sister steam locomotive Rx207 ‘Dean Harvey’ (Built in 1913 by North-British Locomotive Company in Glasgow, Scotland), departing Mt Barker Railway Station at 10.45am.
The locomotive will then lead further departures on the day, departing Mt Barker Railway Station at 11.55am, 1pm and 2.10pm. Tickets will be available for sale on the day from Mt Barker Station, with fares as follows: Adults $14.00, Children $7.00, Seniors $12.50 and Family tickets for $32.00.
Other attractions on the day will include motorised gangers trolley rides to Littlehampton, barbeque, miniature live steam displays, children’s activities, souvenirs, sheep shearing displays and SteamRanger’s depot open for inspection ($5 per person entry fee applies to Depot entry).
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, visitors to Mt Barker Railway Station and Depot will be capped at 1000 people at any time, and covid-cleaning will be regularly undertaken for the safety and comfort of all visitors.
